Head of Nursing Informatics

Beacon Hospital is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking nursing leader to join our EHR Modernisation Programme as Head of Nursing Informatics.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in one of the most significant clinical and operational transformation programmes undertaken by Beacon Hospital. The programme will transition the hospital from MEDITECH Magic to MEDITECH Expanse, with a planned go-live in October 2028.
As Head of Nursing Informatics, you will ensure that nursing practice, patient safety and the needs of frontline clinical teams are at the heart of the design and implementation of the new Electronic Health Record.
The role
Working closely with the Director of Clinical Operations, Nursing Management, Medical Director of Clinical Informatics, EHR Programme Director and clinical leaders across the hospital, you will:
- Act as the senior nursing champion for the EHR Modernisation Programme.
- Lead engagement with nursing, midwifery and healthcare assistant teams throughout the programme.
- Ensure nursing workflows, documentation and care processes are accurately reflected in the design of MEDITECH Expanse.
- Build and lead a network of nursing informatics leads, clinical champions and subject-matter experts.
- Translate clinical nursing requirements into clear system and workflow specifications.
- Co-chair the Clinical and Operational Design Authority with the Medical Director of Clinical Informatics.
- Oversee nursing sign-off on future-state workflows, care plans, clinical documentation, assessments and decision-support tools.
- Ensure the system supports evidence-based nursing practice, multidisciplinary care and effective clinical governance.
- Provide senior clinical safety oversight and support the identification, assessment and mitigation of EHR-related risks.
- Work with education and change teams to prepare staff for new digital ways of working.
- Support testing, training, readiness assessment, go-live and post-implementation stabilisation.
- Help ensure that the programme delivers measurable improvements in patient safety, clinical quality, staff experience and nursing efficiency.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have
- Current registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
- Significant experience in a senior nursing leadership role within an acute hospital environment.
- A strong understanding of acute hospital nursing workflows, multidisciplinary care and clinical governance.
- Demonstrable experience leading clinical change, quality improvement or service transformation.
- The credibility and communication skills required to influence senior nursing and clinical colleagues.
- Experience engaging frontline teams and building support for significant organisational change.
- A sound understanding of patient safety, clinical risk, data protection and information governance.
- A collaborative, resilient and pragmatic approach to clinical and technological transformation.
- Experience in a nursing informatics, digital health or EHR implementation.
Experience with MEDITECH Magic or Expanse, formal clinical risk management training, or a postgraduate qualification in digital health, health informatics, nursing leadership or a related discipline would be desirable.

This is a senior nursing leadership appointment based at Beacon Hospital in Sandyford, Dublin. Remuneration will reflect the seniority, scope and responsibilities of the role.
The successful candidate will hold significant responsibility for nursing engagement, clinical design, adoption and patient-safety assurance within the Beacon EHR Modernisation Programme.
