Permit rule
50:50 rule
The 50:50 rule is the Irish employment permit condition that at least half the employees in a firm are EEA nationals at the time a permit is granted. It catches small companies far more often than large ones. Two waivers exist: a start-up supported by Enterprise Ireland or IDA Ireland may be granted a permit within its first two years of trading without meeting the ratio, and the rule does not defeat an application where granting it would mean the permit holder is the only employee.
