Job Title: Temporary Works Designer Location: Dublin / Donegal Overview Sparktel Recruitment is currently seeking an experienced Temporary Works Designer to join the growing engineering and design team of a leading infrastructure organisation operating across Ireland and the UK. This is an excellent opportunity for a Civil, Structural or Geotechnical Engineer to work on major civil engineering, utilities, power and underground infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing safe, practical and buildable temporary works solutions Key Responsibilities
- Prepare temporary works calculations, drawings, specifications, design risk assessments and certification.
- Design temporary works associated with excavations, trenches, joint bays, utility crossings, temporary slopes, retaining systems, propping arrangements and temporary foundations.
- Develop excavation and trench-support solutions using systems such as trench boxes, sheeted systems, hydraulic bracing and soldier pile arrangements.
- Assess ground conditions, groundwater, surcharge and traffic loading, nearby structures and plant loading when developing temporary works solutions.
- Develop solutions for the protection and support of existing underground services, including bridging, load transfer and restraint arrangements.
- Clearly document design assumptions, limitations, hold points, inspection requirements and residual risks
- Review proposed design changes and ensure that departures from approved designs are appropriately assessed and authorised.
Requirements
- 4+ years in a similar role within the Utilities Industry
- An Honours Degree in Civil, Structural or Geotechnical Engineering
- Proven experience in temporary works design , particularly excavation and trench-support design.
- Experience within civil engineering, utilities, power, transport or other major infrastructure environments.
- AutoCAD , Civil 3D , Engineering design and analysis software, Temporary works design software & Document control systems is essential
- A strong understanding of geotechnical principles , including earth pressures, groundwater, bearing capacity, settlement and construction loading.
