DIRECTOR OF NURSING Location: Tralee, Co. Kerry Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time Salary: Competitive, based on experience Medforce are currently recruiting for an experienced Director of Nursing to join a brand-new nursing home in Tralee, scheduled to open in 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced nursing leader to join a new service from the outset and play a key role in establishing the highest standards of clinical care, governance, staffing and resident experience. As Director of Nursing, you will provide strong clinical and operational leadership while working closely with the wider management team to develop a positive, person-centred culture within the home. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the nursing and care team to ensure the highest standards of resident care.
  • Ensure clinical practices comply with HIQA regulations, national standards, legislation and best practice.
  • Oversee individualised care planning and ongoing clinical reviews.
  • Lead clinical audits and ensure appropriate follow-up and continuous improvement.
  • Support the recruitment, induction, training and ongoing development of nursing and care staff.
  • Promote a culture of innovation, quality improvement and person-centred care.
  • Develop strong relationships with residents, families, healthcare professionals and relevant external agencies.
  • Lead regular communication meetings with clinical staff and promote effective teamwork.
  • Manage complaints appropriately, ensuring they are fully documented, investigated and resolved.
  • Support effective budget management and ensure appropriate use of resources.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety, fire safety, infection prevention and control and risk management requirements.
  • Ensure high standards are maintained across the overall environment, catering, hygiene and resident experience.
  • Participate in workforce planning, recruitment and staff selection.
  • Ensure all registered nurses maintain current NMBI registration.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Registered General Nurse with current NMBI registration.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with older people within the last 6 years.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a management capacity within health or social care.
  • Post-registration management qualification in health or a related field at NFQ Level 8 or higher.
  • Proven experience in clinical and operational management.
  • Strong leadership, organisational and communication skills.
  • Excellent decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Good understanding of financial and resource management.
  • Ability to motivate, develop and lead a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to the needs of a new service.
