Physiotherapist – MSK An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Physiotherapist to join the Primary Care Adult Services team covering East Galway and South Roscommon, based in Co. Galway. The successful candidate will manage a varied adult caseload within a community setting, providing high-quality, evidence-based physiotherapy assessment and intervention aimed at promoting independence, function, and quality of life. The role includes working with adults presenting with a broad range of musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions, particularly within the older population, including age-related degenerative conditions, falls risk, reduced mobility, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, balance impairment, and post-orthopaedic rehabilitation. This is an excellent opportunity for a clinician who enjoys autonomous practice while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary Primary Care team.

Key Responsibilities of the Physiotherapist

Deliver comprehensive physiotherapy assessment and treatment to adults within a Primary Care setting. Manage a diverse caseload including musculoskeletal conditions, chronic disease management, rehabilitation, and age-related conditions. Assess and treat older adults with common MSK presentations, including osteoarthritis, spinal pain, joint disorders, mobility decline, osteoporosis, frailty, and post-fracture or post-operative rehabilitation. Develop individualised rehabilitation programmes aimed at improving strength, balance, mobility, pain management, and functional independence in the elderly population. Provide falls prevention assessment and intervention, promoting safe mobility and reducing the risk of future injury. Provide home visits as required to support patients with mobility or functional limitations. Contribute to discharge planning and early intervention strategies to prevent hospital admission and support ageing in place. Work collaboratively with GPs, occupational therapists, public health nurses, social workers, and other members of the MDT. Educate patients, families, and carers on self-management strategies, exercise programmes, and long-term management of MSK conditions. Maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with professional and organisational standards. Participate in service development, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.

Essential Criteria for the Physiotherapist

BSc (or equivalent) in Physiotherapy. Current CORU registration. Experience working with adult caseloads in community or Primary Care settings. Experience assessing and managing musculoskeletal conditions, with particular interest or experience in elderly rehabilitation, falls prevention, and age-related MSK disorders. Strong clinical reasoning and independent decision-making skills. Excellent communication and organisational abilities. Full clean driving licence and access to own transport (as the role involves community travel).
