Podiatrist The Chiropodist/Podiatrist will provide a high-quality, patient-centred podiatry service across St Vincent’s Hospital, Athy and Baltinglass Community Nursing Unit. The role will focus on assessment, treatment and prevention of foot problems, particularly among older people and patients with long-term conditions, supporting mobility, independence and quality of life. Key Responsibilities of Podiatrist Provide comprehensive podiatry/chiropody assessment and treatment. Provide routine and specialist foot care, including nail and skin care. Assess and manage patients at increased risk of foot complications, including those with diabetes, vascular disease and reduced mobility. Identify infection, ulceration, neuropathy, vascular problems and other conditions requiring further assessment or referral. Make appropriate referrals to GPs, hospital and specialist services when required. Develop and maintain appropriate individual treatment and care plans. Maintain accurate and confidential clinical records. Provide patients, families and carers with advice on foot care, footwear and prevention of complications. Work effectively with nursing staff, GPs and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Comply with infection prevention, health and safety, clinical governance and organisational policies. Maintain professional competence through continuing professional development. Work flexibly between Athy and Baltinglass according to service requirements. Essential Requirements of Podiatrist Hold a recognised qualification in Chiropody/Podiatry. Be eligible to practise in Ireland and hold appropriate professional registration where applicable. Demonstrate good clinical assessment and decision-making skills. Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Be able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Demonstrate a commitment to person-centred care. Be willing to travel between the Athy and Baltinglass locations. Desirable Experience Experience in community, hospital, nursing home or older-person services. Experience in diabetic foot assessment and management. Experience working with patients with complex care needs or reduced mobility. Previous multidisciplinary team experience.
