About this role

Digital Transformation Director

Enterprise Strategy | Digital Innovation | Business Transformation

The Opportunity

I’m supporting a confidential executive search for a Digital Transformation Director to lead strategic change and accelerate digital transformation within a major organisation.

This is an opportunity for an experienced transformation leader to work at the intersection of business strategy, technology and organisational change, helping shape how the business evolves, operates and delivers value.

The successful individual will bring the commercial perspective, leadership capability and delivery experience required to translate transformation ambitions into tangible business outcomes.

This is not simply about introducing new technology or modernising existing processes. It is about understanding where the business needs to go, identifying what must change to get there and ensuring transformation delivers lasting value.

The Mandate

The Digital Transformation Director will take ownership of key transformation priorities, working closely with senior leadership to define strategic objectives, establish delivery priorities and drive progress across the organisation.

Operating across business and technology functions, you will connect digital initiatives with wider commercial goals, ensuring that transformation programmes address genuine business challenges rather than technology in isolation.

You will be responsible for bringing structure and direction to complex initiatives, aligning stakeholders around a shared vision and creating the conditions for successful delivery.

The role requires someone who can move confidently between strategic planning and execution: setting direction at leadership level while maintaining a clear view of delivery, dependencies, risks and measurable outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transformation Strategy: Define and execute digital transformation strategies aligned with the organisation’s long-term business objectives.
  • Enterprise Change: Lead complex, cross-functional transformation programmes that improve organisational effectiveness and business performance.
  • Digital Innovation: Identify opportunities to use technology, automation, data and emerging capabilities to improve how the organisation operates.
  • Business Value: Establish clear measures of success, ensuring transformation initiatives deliver tangible commercial and operational benefits.
  • Executive Stakeholder Management: Partner with senior leaders to establish priorities, secure sponsorship and maintain alignment across the business.
  • Programme Leadership: Oversee transformation roadmaps, delivery plans, investment priorities, dependencies and key milestones.
  • Operating Model Evolution: Identify opportunities to improve processes, structures and ways of working to support the organisation’s future ambitions.
  • Change Management: Build engagement across the business, supporting adoption and ensuring transformation delivers sustainable improvements.
  • Governance and Risk: Establish appropriate oversight, accountability and reporting across transformation initiatives.
  • Continuous Improvement: Evaluate progress, challenge existing approaches and ensure the transformation agenda evolves in response to changing business needs.

The Leadership Profile

We are interested in speaking with established transformation leaders who have delivered complex change within large or operationally sophisticated organisations.

You are likely to bring

  • A track record of leading enterprise-wide digital transformation or major business change programmes.
  • Experience translating business strategy into practical transformation roadmaps and delivery plans.
  • Strong commercial acumen and an understanding of how digital investment contributes to business performance.
  • The ability to influence at executive level and build relationships across business and technology leadership teams.
  • Experience managing complex programmes involving multiple stakeholders, competing priorities and organisational dependencies.
  • A strong understanding of digital technologies, automation, data and the opportunities they create for business improvement.
  • Experience leading organisational change, driving adoption and embedding new ways of working.
  • The ability to establish governance, manage risk and maintain accountability for delivery.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to challenge established thinking and influence decision-making.
  • A pragmatic, outcome-focused approach to transformation, balancing long-term ambition with the realities of implementation.

Experience in financial services, technology-led businesses or other complex enterprise environments would be advantageous.

What Will Differentiate You?

Successful transformation requires more than a compelling strategy. It requires the ability to bring people with you, navigate competing priorities and maintain momentum when change becomes complex.

The strongest candidates will combine strategic thinking with delivery discipline. They will understand how to build executive sponsorship, establish clear accountability and ensure transformation initiatives remain focused on the outcomes that matter.

They will be comfortable challenging existing processes, making difficult decisions and translating complex business challenges into achievable programmes of change.

Above all, they will recognise that meaningful transformation is measured not by the number of initiatives launched, but by the improvements those initiatives deliver.

The Opportunity

This appointment offers the opportunity to play a significant role in shaping an organisation’s transformation agenda, working with senior stakeholders to influence strategic direction and deliver change across the business.

For an established transformation leader looking for broader organisational influence, the role offers the scope to combine strategic ownership with meaningful execution and measurable impact.

It is an opportunity to help shape the organisation’s next phase of development and ensure digital transformation becomes a driver of sustainable business performance.
