About this role

Our Tralee, County Kerry-based client is currently recruiting for an experienced Automation Engineer to take full ownership of the site’s automation and control systems. This is a hands-on, site-based role where you will become the in-house authority for automation and controls, responsible for development, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, optimisation and lifecycle management across the plant. This is a full-time, permanent position offering an excellent opportunity to take genuine ownership of a critical engineering function. Key Responsibilities & Requirements Own and maintain the site’s PLC, HMI and SCADA systems, including Siemens S7 / TIA Portal and WinCC. Develop and commission automation systems covering drives, instrumentation, networks, sequences, batch control, interlocks and alarms. Provide hands-on troubleshooting, root-cause analysis and plant-down support. Use historian and process data to improve reliability, efficiency, yield, quality and OEE. Design and optimise CIP systems, PID loops, instrumentation and calibration programmes. Deliver automation upgrades and capital projects from specification through commissioning and handover. Scope, supervise and sign off contractors and suppliers. Support GMP+, HACCP, change control and audit requirements. Train operators and technicians on automation and process changes. Qualifications & Experience Relevant engineering degree or Level 8 qualification. 5+ years’ hands-on automation experience in manufacturing or process environments. Strong Siemens S7, TIA Portal and WinCC experience. PLC programming, commissioning, troubleshooting and SCADA expertise. Knowledge of PID, instrumentation, VSDs, Profinet and Profibus. Experience with CIP, ISA-88 and process optimisation. GMP+/HACCP and change-control experience. Rockwell, Schneider or Mitsubishi experience is transferable. Salary in the region of €75,000–€88,000, depending on experience, plus relocation package, pension contribution, health insurance and a separately recognised on-call payment arrangement.
