Solicitor – Medical Negligence (Fixed-Term Maternity Cover) Location: Cork Contract: Fixed-Term Contract (up to 12 months) Start Date: November 2026 Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience About the Role A well-established litigation practice is seeking an experienced Solicitor with Medical Negligence expertise to join the team on a fixed-term basis to provide maternity leave cover for up to one year. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated solicitor to manage a varied and high-quality caseload within a busy plaintiff litigation environment. The successful candidate will work closely with senior solicitors and support staff in progressing medical negligence claims from initial instruction through to resolution. Key Responsibilities Managing a caseload of medical negligence matters independently. Taking detailed client instructions and advising clients throughout the litigation process. Reviewing and analysing medical records and expert reports. Drafting pleadings, affidavits, motions, briefs and legal correspondence. Liaising with medical experts, counsel and third parties. Conducting settlement negotiations where appropriate. Preparing cases for Court hearings and trials. Attending Court and consultations as required. Ensuring compliance with all regulatory and professional obligations. Candidate Requirements Qualified Solicitor with a current practising certificate in Ireland. Demonstrable experience handling Medical Negligence cases. Strong knowledge of Irish litigation procedures. Excellent drafting, advocacy and case management skills. Ability to manage files autonomously while working collaboratively within a team. Strong communication and client care abilities. Highly organised with strong attention to detail. Desirable Experience in plaintiff litigation. Familiarity with High Court personal injuries and medical negligence proceedings. Ability to manage a busy caseload efficiently and meet deadlines.
