A company directory you can filter

Filters for city, industry, permit numbers and years on the companies directory, shareable filtered lists, and a new page to browse companies with permit history by location.

In January we made the directory of companies that hold Irish employment permits much easier to search.

Narrow the company directory to what you are looking for

The companies directory got a filter sidebar and a larger search box. You could pick several cities or industries at once, and filter by how many permits a company had been issued and in which years. Each company card also showed its city and industry as links, so one click narrowed the list to employers in the same place or sector.

Share a filtered list

Once you had a list you liked, for example software companies in Cork, the page address kept your filters. A new share button sent that exact view to a friend, and company profiles could be shared the same way.

Browse companies by location

We added a page to browse companies with permit history by location. Each place had a card with a photo, a short description, the number of companies with a permit history there and how permit numbers moved against the year before. From a card you could open the list of companies with permit history in that area, or browse by industry instead. City and industry pages also gained a summary panel with the number of companies holding permits, total permits issued and the top industries or cities behind them.

Smaller things

  • Signing in started taking you back to the page you were reading instead of the home page.
  • We cleaned up how company locations were written and started classifying industries with the official EU industry codes, using records from the Companies Registration Office.
